This past Friday my American Lit class had a google hangout with Georgia Koch, who is the channel manager for Soulpancake. For those of you that don't know, Soulpancake is a channel on YouTube, that discusses what it means to be human. Our class had the opportunity to ask questions about following your passion as well as the soul pancake channel itself. One thing that she said that stood out to me, was that you can find your passion in the strangest ways. You've just got to try a bunch of things and see what makes you happy and sparks your interest.
Getting back to my project, it's been kind of slow. This weekend I got an Etsy account, which is basically a place to sell handmade items. One thing that I learned is that all of the articles I've read are right, coming up with a name for your business is super hard. I spent so much time brainstorming ideas for the name and I finally came up with a few. I wanted the name to embody the idea of shapes, lines and textures which is what I think I want the concept of my line to be. I just think all of theses harsh shapes are really interesting. I'm not going to share my name ideas yet, but I think I will have my choices down to like two or three pretty soon.
The other day I was reading an article about a woman who owns her own jewelry line. She talked about starting up her business and how it's been going so far. I learned that she draws out her designs and almost blueprints which she then sends to an outside company. The company looks over the designs and then meets with the woman to discuss production. Once they are in agreement on materials and details, they begin the process of making the jewelry. I know that I don't have a manufacturer at my disposal, but I still found the explanation very helpful.
